If you are an international student at the University of Central Florida (UCF), health insurance is mandatory. You must either enroll in UCF’s student health insurance plan or submit a waiver proving your alternative plan meets UCF’s coverage requirements.

Whether you already have coverage through a private plan, a sponsor, or another source, understanding the waiver process can help you avoid paying for duplicate insurance and make sure you stay compliant with UCF’s health coverage rules.

In this article, we’ll explain how the UCF insurance waiver process works, what requirements your alternate plan must meet, and important deadlines to keep in mind.

What Is a UCF Health Insurance Waiver?

By default, all international students at UCF are enrolled in the university’s health insurance plan. However, you can apply for a waiver if you have you enroll in a plan that falls into UCF’s pre-approved alternative insurance list - including companies like ISO Student Health Insurance.

If you enroll in one of these plans with sufficient dates , your waiver will be approved and the insurance fee will be removed from your tuition bill. If you don’t submit a waiver or it is denied, you will be responsible for the UCF plan.

How to Waive UCF Student Health Insurance

Here’s how to waive UCF’s insurance plan:

  1. Enroll in an alternative plan
  2. Pick your alternative insurance (such as ISO Student Health Insurance) and complete the purchase process. When submitting a waiver, you must show proof of insurance, so you cannot waive before purchasing elsewhere.

  3. Visit the Student Health Service website:
  4. Go to https://studenthealth.ucf.edu/payments/intl/.

  5. Click the “Submit” button
  6. Find the button labeled “Submit” at the top right corner of the page.

  7. Complete the online waiver form
  8. Fill out all requested information on the form and select “Purchasing Own Insurance” when asked about your insurance status.

  9. Prepare your document
  10. You must combine your insurance confirmation letter and your insurance card (front and back) into a single PDF file. You can do this using a PDF editor or by contacting your insurance.

  11. Upload your combined document
  12. Submit the single PDF through the secure online portal, ensuring it is clear and legible. UCF Health Insurance Waiver Deadline and Coverage Period

h2> When is UCF’s waiver deadline?

The waiver deadline for Fall 2025 has not yet been finalized. However, your insurance policy must be active from August 15, 2025, through December 31, 2025 to cover the Fall semester – though it is recommended to purchase for the full school year if possible.

For continuing students, you must ensure you maintain continuous coverage with no gaps in coverage. Before purchasing, make sure to check your past insurance dates so you can stay complaint with UCF requirements.

Keep an eye on UCF communications for the exact waiver deadline to ensure timely submission.
